In-House Lab Q & A

What are in-house labs?

In-house labs at Broadway Family Clinic include various diagnostic tests designed to detect certain medical problems. This service is an added convenience available at Broadway Family Clinic available to new and existing patients. The option of having in-house labs can save you time, as you don’t have to schedule a separate appointment at a lab for diagnostic testing.

Which in-house lab tests are available?

In-house labs available at Broadway Family Clinic include:

  • Blood testing
  • Urine tests
  • Saliva tests
  • Stool tests
  • Tissue swabs
  • Pap tests
  • Biopsies
  • Strep tests
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing
  • Flu testing
  • COVID-19 testing

Each of these tests is painless and fast. Your Broadway Family Clinic provider may also recommend asthma testing, allergy tests, heart-function tests, X-rays, or other imaging procedures if necessary to diagnose your condition and treat it effectively.

Which in-house labs am I a candidate for?

To determine if you’re a candidate for one or more in-house labs, your Broadway Family Clinic specialist discusses your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, medications, and the reason for your appointment. They also complete a physical exam and review your risk factors for specific medical issues. Your provider then recommends lab work or other diagnostic tests if needed.

What happens during in-house lab testing?

Your provider may ask you to leave a urine, stool, or saliva sample during in-house lab testing. They might swab the inside of your mouth, throat, genital area, or nose or take a tiny tissue sample during a biopsy.

During a Pap test in women, your specialist completes a pelvic exam and takes a sample of cells from the cervix to screen for cervical cancer.

Blood tests involve taking a sample of your blood from one of your veins, often in your arm.

When will I receive my in-house lab test results?

The time it takes to receive in-house lab test results depends on the type of test you undergo. Your specialist might receive results during your office visit, later the same day, or the next day. They review the results and determine if you have a health condition requiring treatment. You might need prescription medications, home remedies, in-office treatments, or a referral.
